Miss Amy
Teacher
Ms. Amy is an experienced teacher who is passionate about early learning. She has over fifteen years of experience teaching elementary school, preschool, tutoring, and nannying. For the past ten years, she has excelled teaching Junior and Senior Kindergarten where she delivered a successful and popular program.
Amy has a Bachelor of Arts in English and Psychology from Saint Mary’s University in Halifax, Nova Scotia, and a Bachelor of Education from the University of Maine – Presque Isle in Maine, USA. She is certified to teach elementary in Maine, Nova Scotia and Alberta, acquiring her Alberta Permanent Professional Certificate in 2011.
Amy has taught English Language Learners for the past ten years and as a result, has acquired a calm and patient style when speaking with young children. Amy is well-versed in early literacy and numeracy and has extensive experience fostering kindergarten readiness skills. She has experience working with children of all abilities and collaborating with professionals and parents to develop a program that benefits each child. Amy’s goal in a preschool setting is nurturing kind, confident and curious children who are excited to learn new things. She believes that play is the best way to learn about the world. Through play, children learn social and emotional skills, they discover new things and test ideas, all while using their imaginations and creativity. As Mister Rogers said “Play is often talked about as if it were a relief from serious learning. But for children play is serious learning. Play is really the work of childhood.” When not teaching Amy enjoys being outdoors with her family, camping, traveling, reading and crocheting. Aside from teaching, she loves playing with her son and exploring the parks & mountains with her family. She likes riding her bike, dancing, snowboarding, skating, reading, painting, traveling, and eating in good restaurants. She is excited to bring her wealth of experience and enthusiasm for teaching with her to the Glendale Community Preschool.
